Cairo Governor outlines four phases for Khedival Cairo downtown development

Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber said the Khedival Cairo development project will proceed in four phases spanning Tahrir Square, Talaat Harb, Opera Square and Qasr El-Nil Street.
Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber announced on Monday that the Khedival Cairo development project will comprise four main phases, as authorities push ahead with the redevelopment of the historic downtown area.
Saber explained that the first phase includes Tahrir Square, the second phase extends from Talaat Harb Square to Mostafa Kamel Square, the third phase encompasses the section of Opera Square extending to Talaat Harb Square, and the fourth phase covers Qasr El-Nil Street between Mostafa Kamel and Opera squares.
He indicated that the project also includes the development of the section of 26th of July Street up to Opera Square, along with the completion of development work on Talaat Harb Street up to 26th of July Street.
The governor chaired a follow-up meeting on the project's implementation alongside Khaled Fouda, Presidential Advisor for Local Development and Chairman of the National Committee for the Protection and Development of Historic Cairo, and confirmed that execution is being carried out in full coordination with the National Organization for Urban Harmony.
Saber called for a clear time plan to develop downtown real estate and maximise the use of existing assets, while implementing activities consistent with Cairo's historical heritage in cooperation with concerned authorities, civil society institutions and residents. He also urged regular cultural and artistic events to revitalise the downtown area and the development of a clear model and comprehensive plan for each street or area within the development scope.
