Kenya is recruiting 6,000 interns across 28 professional areas for a 12-month, non-renewable programme tied to the Affordable Housing Programme, with applications closing on 9 November 2026.
The Kenyan government has announced 6,000 internship opportunities for young professionals under the Affordable Housing Programme, in an advertisement issued through the State Department for Housing and Urban Development under the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development.
The advertisement targets graduates in engineering, construction, architecture, land management and other specialised fields. The programme runs for 12 months, is non-renewable, and will see successful applicants receive a stipend at a rate determined by the government as well as certificates on completion. Placements will be available at Affordable Housing Programme and marketing project sites across the country.
The opportunities cover construction management, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, quantity surveying, structural engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning and property management. Other vacancies target graduates in social development, gender and development studies, data science and artificial intelligence, communication and branding, environmental practice and interior design.
Positions are distributed across the disciplines, with construction management offering 500 slots and architecture 475. Realtors have 330 positions, while degree-level quantity surveying, diploma-level quantity surveying assistance, structural engineering and health and safety each have 300 vacancies.
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or diploma from a recognised university depending on the position, must have graduated not earlier than 2020, be proficient in computer skills and not have benefited from a similar internship programme. The department said interns will undertake duties assigned by their supervisors, document the skills acquired in their areas of deployment and participate in mentorship activities.
The State Department said the initiative seeks to equip young professionals with relevant skills, expose them to real-world work environments and strengthen their capacity to contribute to the implementation of the Affordable Housing Programme and the country's broader socio-economic development agenda. Interested applicants have been directed to the Public Service Commission's job portal and must apply by 9 November 2026.
