Kenya's 1,910-unit Ngong Vet housing project hits 60% completion

Written on

Kenya's Ngong Vet affordable housing project in Kajiado North has reached 60 per cent completion, with all 1,910 planned units expected to serve residents of Ngong and surrounding areas.

The Ngong Vet Affordable Housing Project in Kajiado North has reached 60 per cent completion, with construction continuing on the 1,910-unit development, according to a project update on September 8, 2026. The scheme is part of the government's affordable housing programme aimed at increasing access to lower-cost homes for urban and peri-urban households.

An inspection of the site assessed construction progress and the work remaining before completion, with activities continuing across different sections of the project, including building, finishing and related works. The development is expected to provide a range of housing options for prospective homeowners under the affordable housing programme.

The project has also created employment for local residents, with about 1,500 young people engaged during construction in areas such as masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work and steel fixing. Remaining works include finishing unfinished sections, installing services, and completing supporting infrastructure such as roads, drainage, water, sanitation and electricity.

At 60 per cent completion, the Ngong Vet scheme is among several affordable housing projects under way across the country intended to increase the supply of formal housing while providing construction-related employment during implementation. Once completed, the development will add housing capacity in Kajiado North.
