Kenya's land commission opens fresh acquisition inquiries for SGR and road, water projects

Written on

Kenya's National Land Commission has published fresh compulsory acquisition notices covering SGR Phase 2A parcels plus road and water projects in Kajiado, Kiambu, Nyeri and Migori counties, with public inquiries set for October and November 2026.

Kenya's National Land Commission (NLC) has published fresh notices for the compulsory acquisition of land for railway, road and water projects, covering Kajiado, Kiambu, Nyeri and Migori counties. The notices appeared in the Kenya Gazette on Friday, September 25, 2026, and require affected landowners to appear before the commission for inquiries into the proposed acquisitions and compensation.

For the Nairobi-Naivasha Standard Gauge Railway Phase 2A project, the commission listed three parcels in Kajiado County for supplementary acquisition, including two in Ngong and another in Kitengela. An inquiry into that acquisition is scheduled for November 19, 2026, at the Scheme 6 Kandisi Chief's Office from 10am.

The notices also cover the Gatiiguru-Ithanga-Gakungu and Gakungu-Kamahuha-Mbombo road project in Kiambu County, where the NLC has added several parcels to the land required for construction. An inquiry has been scheduled for November 26, 2026, at the Kirimiri Chief's Office, with affected landowners expected to present their claims and ownership documents.

In Nyeri County, the commission listed an additional parcel for the Mukurweni-Ini-Gakonya road project after correcting an earlier entry, with an inquiry set for October 22, 2026, at Upper Hill Chambers in Nairobi. In Migori County, several parcels have been added for the Toku Bridge and approach roads project, among them a parcel measuring 1.1925 hectares, one of the larger pieces listed in the latest notices. That inquiry will be held on November 16, 2026, at the Kitere Chief's Office.

The NLC has further issued notices for the Gatundu Water Supply and Sewerage project in Kiambu County, with additional land required for both components. Two parcels have been listed for compulsory acquisition for the sewerage component, with the inquiry scheduled for November 26, 2026, at the Juja Town Chief's Office.

The notices require people with an interest or claim in the affected land to submit written claims for compensation together with identification documents, land ownership records and bank account details before or on the day of the inquiry.
