In a major step toward equitable land acquisition, the Lagos State Government has disbursed over ₦3.1 billion in direct compensation to 331 property owners whose lands and structures were acquired for crucial public infrastructure initiatives.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu presented the compensation cheques during a ceremony at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja, emphasizing that the payout represents a binding legal and moral obligation under the Land Use Act rather than an act of government charity.
The affected properties were acquired to clear space for strategic road networks, school expansions, and urban connectivity projects across key corridors including Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo, and Ogba.
According to the state government, each beneficiary underwent a rigorous verification process—comprising enumeration, valuation by professional estate surveyors, and land title confirmation—to prevent fraudulent claims.
Addressing concerns from other displaced residents, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured property owners with pending applications that all legitimate, verified claims will be fully honored as ongoing infrastructure development continues across the state.
