Wike's son faces EFCC petition over alleged $2.1m Abuja land deal

Written on

Jordan Wike, son of the FCT minister, has been petitioned to the EFCC over a failed $2.1m transaction for land in Katampe and Guzape, while a civil suit over the same deal returns to court on 1 December.

Jordan, the son of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, has been dragged before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over his alleged role in a botched $2.1m land transaction in Abuja, Daily Trust reported on 19 October.

The claimants, Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, are seeking to recover the sum they say they paid in connection with a proposed property development venture involving land in Katampe and Guzape. Justice Silvanus Oriji of the FCT High Court has fixed 1 December for continuation of the civil suit marked CV/008/2026.

According to the petition seen by the newspaper, the claimants met Jordan in London and were later told he could facilitate the acquisition of 30 hectares in Katampe and 30 hectares in Guzape, with the claim that he did so routinely with his father's knowledge and approval. He allegedly placed a call to his father in the claimant's presence to reinforce that impression.

The petition alleges that he demanded and received $2 million as the fee to be delivered to his father to facilitate the allocation, plus $100,000 as a personal facilitation fee. The sums were said to have been paid in cash at a house in Gwarinpa, Abuja, before two witnesses, Adamu Sani and Aliyu Sarki, with Jordan accompanied by one Onor Sandy, whom he introduced as a friend and associate.

Counsel to the claimants, Ibrahim Waru, told journalists at the court premises that the EFCC had acknowledged receipt of the petition but had not yet acted on it, adding that the civil dispute was already before the High Court while the petition was filed so the commission could investigate the alleged criminal elements.

Jordan has denied the allegation. He told the court that he was not in the country on the date the claimants said the money was handed over and tendered his international passport in support, saying he travelled out of Nigeria on his American passport within the period in question. The claimants have also petitioned the Chief Judge of the court to move the matter from Justice Oriji, citing his alleged relationship with the minister's family.
